Team Dacey and Team Reddick win the 2012 Challenge Chateau Cartier de Gatineau

Mark Dacey defeats Brad Gushue, and Julie Reddick defeats Cathy Auld in the Challenge Chateau Cartier de Gatineau in Buckingham, Quebec.

Buckingham, QUEBEC (October 28, 2012) Mark Dacey defeated Brad Gushue by a score of 7-6 in the final of the 2012 Challenge Chateau Cartier de Gatineau. The team from Halifax received $10,000 in prize money for their victory at the Buckingham Curling Club.

After five ends, the game was tied 3-3. The sixth end saw Gushue score three points to take a big lead.

"Once you're down three, you're forced to play aggressive.", stated Dacey. "We capitalized and were able to score two".

This left Dacey to play the eighth end down one point and without hammer. On Gushue's first throw of the eight end, he attempted a draw to the button which ended up a foot too deep. Dacey placed his last stone on the back button next to the Gushue stone.

"I think Brad could have drawn to get shot, but that ice path was a bit straight.", explained Dacey.

Instead, Gushue attempted to angle-raise a rock from the 12-foot onto the button. He had to hit it on the outside, but it curled hard and resulted in the Dacey steal of two.

Dacey also recently made the semi-final at the Swiss Basel Cup.

"We're playing about two events per month, but mostly near home.", said Dacey. "We added a guy from New Brunswick this year, which has given us some more energy in the front end."

Team Brad Gushue beat Ian MacAulay and Brad Jacobs in the playofs and received $7,000 for their efforts.
